We already have medicines for treating cytokine storm syndrome, the immune response that’s killing many who die of Covid-19, another name for SAR-COV-2 or version 2 of the 2003 SARS virus.

Critically important studies emerging from China suggest that for many patients who die of Covid-19, it may be their own immune system, rather than the virus itself, that deals the fatal blow. This is called a cytokine storm. 

During a cytokine storm, an excessive immune response ravages healthy lung tissue, leading to acute respiratory distress and multi-organ failure. Untreated, cytokine storm syndrome is usually fatal. Patients in other studies who developed cytokine storm syndrome after viral triggers often ironically possessed subtle genetic immune defects resulting in the uncontrolled immune response. 

Over the past two decades, much has been learned about the diagnosis and treatment of cytokine storm syndromes. On the front lines of the Covid-19 response, it is critical that medical professionals are aware of the syndrome and prepared to identify and treat it. 

This act of preparation could help to significantly reduce the number of deaths from Covid-19. In treating cytokine storms brought about by other illnesses, like other viral infections and autoimmune diseases, death rates among patients suffering a cytokine storm have been reduced to as low as 27 percent.

 it is possible that millions of people may become infected around the globe. This is in part due to minimal early symptoms in up to 80 percent of those who become infected. 

However, seemingly mild cases of Covid-19 can morph into more severe cases involving the lower lungs and up to 20 percent of symptomatic novel coronavirus infected individuals require hospitalization, with 5 percent overall needing intensive care.

Although individuals who are elderly or who have underlying chronic health problems are at a higher risk of mortality, younger previously healthy people have also succumbed to severe Covid-19. 

Cytokine storm syndromes go by many names, but they share the pathology of an overly active immune response that leads to frequently fatal multi-organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). The risk factors for why some previously healthy individuals become deathly ill remain unknown. There are likely host factors, including genetic mutations that put individuals at higher risk.

Until the risk factors are known, the medical community will need to treat those Covid-19 patients based solely on the severity of their disease.

The information you read below could save you life or the life of a loved one if your doctor is not screening you properly for a cytokine storm.

How to screen for cytokine storm syndrome in sick patients

While novel and repurposed anti-viral therapies are being explored to treat Covid-19, those individuals with cytokine storm syndrome also require treatment of the overly active immune response.

In these situations, an overactive immune response can be deadly. All Covid-19 patients sick enough for hospitalization should be given a cheap, quick, and readily available serum ferritin blood test.


Indeed, elevated serum ferritin values have recently been reported in Chinese hospitalized patients with Covid-19.

Note that there is not a need for randomized trial to confirm which therapeutics will effectively treat and cure covid-19 patients.

Newt Gingrich: Coronavirus modeling – how our hysterical culture led to this reaction to pandemic



Today, the combination of news media desperation for something about which to be hysterical, the Chinese Communist Party’s role in hiding and then lying about the new virus, and absurdly overstated claims of supposedly scientific modelers has led to the greatest self-inflicted economic disaster in history.

The Chinese Communist dictatorship’s deception is the first great scandal of the COVID-19 virus. We should have thorough congressional hearings into the dictatorship’s role from November 2019 through February 2020.

But, the extraordinary influence of supposedly expert modelers is the second great scandal. We should also have congressional hearings into their destructive impact. In some cases, modelers completely misinformed government leaders, the news media and ultimately the public about the scale of the threat.

The most influential model was the one created by the Imperial College in London, which estimated more than 500,000 Britons would die and more than 2.2 million Americans would die if governments did nothing. The model projected that in both countries the hospitals, intensive care units and ventilators would be overwhelmed.

Faced with a projection that five times as many Americans could die this year as were killed in all of World War II, President Trump had no choice but to close the country. To tie the comparison to a more recent event, the Imperial College model predicted almost 1,000 times as many Americans would die from the virus as died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Estimates of imminent death on this scale can make almost any radical response seem rational.

Unfortunately, too few people examined the assumptions behind the Imperial College model. First, it assumed an infection rate of over 80 percent of the population of the United States. By comparison, the deadliest pandemic in modern history was the Spanish Flu (also H1N1) of 1918-1919. It only infected 28 percent of the U.S. population.

Second, the Imperial College predictions were based on a model of taking zero precautions. Of course, this is an entirely irrational assumption based on basic human behavior. Just because the government is not forcing you to stay inside your house, limit contact with people and wash your hands doesn’t mean that human beings will not take the precautions. All our experience from past pandemics shows this.

So, projections that were disconnected from common sense and reality were able to guide public policy.

The truth is, we should have immediately expected these dire predictions to be complete bunk. It turns out the chief author, Neil Ferguson, has become famous for making wildly absurd predictions about public health issues.

As the Committee To Unleash Prosperity reported in its newsletter, citing reporting by the British newspaper The Telegraph:

“Ferguson has been wrong so often that some of his fellow modelers call him ‘The Master of Disaster.’

“Ferguson was behind the disputed research that sparked the mass culling of 11 million sheep and cattle during the 2001 outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease. He also predicted that up to 150,000 people could die.

“In 2002, Ferguson predicted that up to 50,000 people would likely die from exposure to BSE (mad cow disease) in beef. In the U.K., there were only 177 deaths from BSE.

“In 2005, Ferguson predicted that up to 150 million people could be killed from bird flu. In the end, only 282 people died worldwide from the disease between 2003 and 2009.

“In 2009, a government estimate, based on Ferguson’s advice, said a ‘reasonable worst-case scenario’ was that the swine flu would lead to 65,000 British deaths. In the end, swine flu killed 457 people in the U.K.”

I’ll add that Dr. Ferguson has since resigned because he was caught breaking the draconian lockdown rules he championed in order to carry out an affair.

This deserves a serious congressional investigation. We were being guided in national policy by people who had no realistic scientific basis for – or demonstrable faith in – their claims.

In effect, much of our pandemic public policy was being driven by fake science (which exists as a partner with the fake news and enthusiastically creates hysteria whenever it can).

For perspective, nearly two weeks after the Imperial College’s March 16 report – and despite the media’s rabid embrace of it – National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director
 
Dr. Anthony Fauci’s, Dr Death, initial top-end prediction for American fatalities was 10 percent of the Imperial College’s ludicrous 2.2 million figure. By April 9, after reviewing more real data, Fauci downgraded his prediction to roughly 60,000. As of this writing, the latest CDC numbers are at 68,279. This is much closer to Fauci’s prediction. 


The whole role of hyping supposedly scientific, dire modeling predictions on issues like climate change is a key to understanding the bad policies left-wing scientists are trying to browbeat us into endorsing.

As I write in my upcoming book "Trump and the American Future," I first encountered this phenomenon of fake science in modeling when I taught environmental studies at West Georgia College in the early 1970s. We used a fascinating book called "The Limits to Growth."

"The Limits to Growth" was published in 1972 by a group called the Club of Rome. It used computer simulations to project when the earth would run out of various raw materials. Through this computer modeling, it projected a gloomy future of limits that would require radical left-wing policies to avoid.

After a couple of years, I began to realize the entire book was an absurdity. It ignored that innovations in resource management and efficiency would profoundly decrease our resource consumption.

There is a rule in computing:

Garbage in, garbage out. If you enter the wrong assumptions, you will get the wrong answers.

The idea that using a computer suddenly makes some projection scientific or valid is ridiculous. 

Garbage data leads to garbage answers.

(In fact, Ferguson’s COVID-19 model used 13-year-old code that was written for influenza – not a coronavirus.)

If we look at all the different models of the COVID-19 viruses and their impacts on government policies, we will discover an extraordinary range of mistakes, which led to extraordinary damage to society.

Congress should investigate the entire modeling-advising process just as it should investigate the Chinese Communist dictatorship’s role in spreading the virus in the first place.

“Yes, I have,” Trump told White House reporters when asked whether he’s seen proof that would suggest the virus originated in the lab.

When pressed on what gave him that confidence, he said: “I can’t tell you that. I am not allowed to tell you that.”

President Trump knows where the COVID-19 virus was created, by whom and also who injected it into the world population.

He said, quote,  “Yes, I have”. He was asked if he had seen proof that would suggest the COVID-19 was created in a lab!

Trump also said, quote, “I can’t tell you that. I am not allowed to tell you that.”




Rudy Giuliani questioned Dr. Anthony Fauci's involvement in grants from the United States to a laboratory in Wuhan, China, that has been tied to the coronavirus pandemic.


Back in 2014, the Obama administration prohibited the U.S. from giving any money to any laboratory, including in the U.S., that was fooling around with these viruses.

Despite that, Dr. Fauci gave $3.7 million to the Wuhan laboratory — and then even after the State Department issued reports about how unsafe that laboratory was, and how suspicious they were in the way they were developing a virus that could be transmitted to humans.

Giuliani added, "We never pulled that money. So, something here is going on, John. I don’t want to make any accusations. But there was more knowledge about what was going on in China with our scientific people than they disclosed to us when this first came out.

Just think of it: If this laboratory turns out to be the place where the virus came from, we paid for it. We paid for the damn virus that’s killing us.”

While Giuliani placed the blame on Fauci, who has been the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984,


Giuliani called for an investigation into the Wuhan laboratory, saying, "Today, if I were U.S. attorney, I’d open an investigation into the Wuhan laboratory. And I’d want to know, what did we know? How much did we know about how bad the practices were there? Who knew about it? And who sent them money anyway? And that person would sure as heck be in front of a grand jury trying to explain to me — what are you asleep?”

Despite Trump's attacks, the US group doing the research defended the Wuhan lab.

The Trump administration has pulled funding for a group of scientists studying coronaviruses in bats and the risk of their spillover into humans -- the very kind of infection that started the COVID-19 pandemic -- according to EcoHealth Alliance, the New York-based nonprofit organization conducting the research.

The cancellation of the grant after more than a decade of work in this field seems to be tied to EcoHealth Alliance's partnership with the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the biomedical lab, a Chinese government lab that has created or unleashed the virus  that caused an outbreak that started with an "accident" because of faulty safety standards in the lab.

A California pulmonologist explained on “Fox
& Friends” on Tuesday the protocol he created to help identify and treat
the most extreme

COVID-19 cases, saying the key is to find these patients and prevent
them from going onventilators. 

The new coronavirus is spread by microscopic droplets from coughs or sneezes and
causes mild to moderate symptoms in most. For some, especially older adults and
the infirm, it can cause pneumonia and lead to death.



Speaking from Los Angeles on Tuesday, Dr. Tom Yadegar, a specialist in critical
care medicine who has been treating COVID-19 patients, said he noticed several
patients were deteriorating quickly and needed to be put on ventilators. He said
he realized that he had to find out why these patients were experiencing sudden
deterioration.



“This happened to me just like it's happened to every other doctor who is taking
care of these patients and it was very alarming that I didn't understand what
happened,” said Yadegar, medical director of the intensive care
unit at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center.





He said that prompted him to start researching what was happening to those
COVID-19 patients. Yadegar explained that through his research he found out that
“what was happening is a process called cytokine storm syndrome.”



According to the National Cancer Institute (NCI), cytokine storm, which can occur as a result
of infection, autoimmune conditions or diseases, is “a severe immune reaction in
which the body releases too many cytokines into the blood too quickly.”



“Cytokines play an important role in normal immune responses, but having a large
amount of them released in the body all at once can be harmful,” NCI explained.



On Tuesday, Yadegar explained that “in this syndrome, the immune system is
activated – you have intense inflammation and subsequently it leads to patients
requiring mechanical ventilation.”



He said once he figured out what the diagnosis was, he started doing more
research to try and figure out “how do we look for it in a laboratory value so
that we can find it before it happens because when it happens, it's almost
too late.”



He added that “it’s very important to find these patients and prevent them
from going on ventilators.”



Yadegar said he came up with “a handful of lab tests” that he thought
were useful “and we started ordering them on admission when the patients were
presenting to the ER [emergency room] and then tracking them every few days
and it was a very clear pattern that we learned.”



He noted that it is not the case that every COVID-19 patient that is admitted
to the hospital develops cytokine storm syndrome.

“You can predict on presentation who is going to be at risk for it and then if you follow
certain markers and their clinical course you can actually tell who is going to
develop it and, more importantly, you can intervene to prevent them from getting
to that point where they need a ventilator,” Yadegar said.



He said that as people’s immune systems kick in, he has a better result by
actually suppressing that person’s immune system, which he said was “pretty
counterintuitive.”

If I had symptoms of the sars-2 corona virus I would not go out in public, especially not go out into the public wearing a cloth face mask that is not certified to keep another person from getting the sars-2.

The only mask that is certified to help keep your safe from the sars-2 corona virus is an N95 mask.

A cloth mask as you see most people wear is a useless piece of cloth when it comes to keeping you from getting the sars-2 corona virus and most likely will not keep other safe from infection if I had the sars-2 corona virus myself.

Cloth masks have become a fad of sorts. They come in many differnet types and shapes. People who sell them make sure you are happy with your unique mask that is mostly useless but will make you feel better thinking your are helping yourself or others. A big lie!

Types of Medical Errors

Now that we’ve defined what counts as a medical error, what are the most common types of medical errors in the United States?

• Misdiagnosis   (Note This.)
• Billing errors
• Incorrect medication/incorrect dosage
• Incorrectly identifying a patient
• Surgical errors

Misdiagnosis

Misdiagnosis occurs when a patient with one illness or disease is told they have a different illness or disease.  According to a 2014 study, roughly 12,000,000 Americans are misdiagnosed at outpatient facilities every year.

The study’s authors concluded that this issue creates a “substantial patient safety risk” and should be addressed. Reducing the chance of patient harm should be a main priority.

Of the 12,000,000 total Americans receiving a misdiagnosis, roughly 50 percent could be seriously harmed by getting the wrong diagnosis.

Acting fast and early is the key to effectively treating a corona virus patient in an ICU.
