Public schools are ‘ripping parents off’ with classroom supplies scheme

 

The money-making scheme is generating windfall profits getting tucked away in school slush funds.

 

A company offers packages of schoolhouse basics — notebooks, crayons, paper and more — at inflated prices, in some cases up to double what stores and online retailers charge.

Excess supplies are apparently hoarded in closets and storerooms, creating an artificial shortage.

Insiders suspect the real purpose behind pushing parents to buy supplies is for the schools to avoid spending money they get from the DOE on supplies.

Their share of the profits can be spent on anything, including music or art programs, field trips, and other extras.



DOE spokeswoman Danielle Filson said it does not sanction companies: “Families are not required to purchase school supplies from any particular vendor, and schools will also ensure that every student has the necessary supplies regardless of their ability to pay,” she said.

The DOE’s Teacher’s Choice program also gives teacher up to $250 each to spend on supplies.

Reporters for "driving this narrative that I am using race as a dividing card," in a statement Sunday, in response to two recent headlines.


Hayes called outThe Connecticut Mirror that said "Hayes has 'heightened sense' about security concerns," and a Republican American headline that said "U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes claims to have received racist communications since taking office."

"I am appalled at the continuous attempts by journalists to drive this narrative that I am using race as a dividing card. This is clickbait journalism at its very worst - in order to drive clicks and boost advertising, these outlets are making reckless assumptions without thought for the consequences,"

Hayes said. "To be clear: while my office, like all congressional offices, has received the occasional harassing email or phone call, I have not been directly threatened."



"In fact, when asked directly by one reporter if any threats had been received, I responded, 'No, I have not received any direct threats.' The reporter then repeated and confirmed that statement in the recap of our conversation," Hayes said.

"In the second interview, I stated repeatedly that this discussion of security threats was taken out of context, which is not reflected in the article."

"Journalists have an important role to play in our public discourse, however, they must also be cognizant of their responsibility to the truth," Hayes said. "As the wife of a police officer, I am deeply aware of how much it corrodes our public safety when false allegations are bandied about. Going forward, I hope and pray that members of the press will strive harder to be fair and accurate, rather than focusing on clickbait."

Jeffrey Epstein found dead in Manhattan jail cell

It wasn't a suicide.

He was killed because of the many other people who are involved in the  sex trafficking minors
operation the billionare and his friends used which included bill clinton and other national figures.


The 66-year-old Epstein was found unresponsive inside his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City around 6:30 a.m. Life-saving measures were initiated immediately by responding staff. He was transported to the New York Presbyterian-Lower Manhattan Hospital and was dead on arrival, officials said.


Epstein's death comes two weeks after the 66-year-old was placed on suicide watch after he was found nearly unconscious in his cell with injuries to his neck. At the time, it was not clear whether the injuries were self-inflicted or from an assault.

He had been taken off suicide watch before he killed himself, a person familiar with the matter told the AP. It wasn't immediately clear when he was taken off suicide watch.


Epstein allegedly created and maintained a “vast network” and operation from 2002 “up to and including” at least 2005 that enabled him to “sexually exploit and abuse dozens of underage girls” in addition to paying victims to recruit other girls. Prosecutors said that victims would be escorted to a room with a massage table where they would perform massages on Epstein.

At the time of Epstein's arrest, prosecutors said they found a trove of pictures of nude and seminude young women and girls at his $77 million Manhattan mansion. They also say additional victims have come forward since the arrest.


His death also comes a day after thousands of documents were unsealed Friday in connection with a defamation case against his alleged recruiter that revealed dozens of high-profile names including former Maine Sen. George Mitchell, ex-New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and Prince Andrew, Duke of York.

High-profile people in politics and finance are likely “breathing a sigh of relief” after disgraced multimillionaire Jeffrey Epstein was found dead from an apparent suicide early Saturday morning inside his Manhattan jail cell, said Fox News contributor Deroy Murdock.


Murdock told “Fox and Friends” Saturday morning that the shock death raises questions about how Epstein, who was already once found in his cell with thumbprints on his neck, ended up dead.

“Apparently he was supposed to be on suicide watch. Given how high profile a suspect he is, you’d think there would be a doctor in there …. and cameras and lights to make sure nothing like this happen,” he said.

Attorney General William Barr assigns US attorney to examine Trump surveillance and other corruption

U.S. Attorney John Durham is a corruption specialist, handling cases involving the misuse of informants by the FBI, destruction of evidence at the CIA, as well ongoing leak investigations.

The U.S. attorney appointed to examine the origins of the Russia investigation has been working on his review “for weeks,” a person familiar with the process told Fox News on Tuesday, to probe "all intelligence collection activities" related to the Trump campaign during the 2016 presidential election.

Fox News reported on Monday that Attorney General Bill Barr had assigned John Durham, the U.S. attorney in Connecticut, to conduct the inquiry into alleged misconduct and alleged improper government surveillance on the Trump campaign in 2016 as well as whether Democrats were the ones who improperly colluded with foreign actors.

Durham, known as a “hard-charging, bulldog” prosecutor, according to a source, will focus on the period before Nov. 7, 2016—including the use and assignments of FBI informants, as well as alleged improper issuance of Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants.

Durham was asked to help Barr to "ensure that intelligence collection activities by the U.S. Government related to the Trump 2016 Presidential Campaign were lawful and appropriate."

Barr is working "collaboratively" on the investigation with FBI Director Chris Wray, CIA Director Gina Haspel, and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, and that Durham is also working directly with Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz, who is currently reviewing allegations of misconduct in issuance of FISA warrants, and the role of FBI informants during the early stages of the investigation.

AG Barr gets attacked because his probe endangers powerful people

The only thing uglier than an angry Washington is a fearful Washington. And fear is what’s driving this week’s blitzkrieg of Attorney General William Barr.

Mr. Barr tolerantly sat through hours of Democratic insults at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday. His reward for his patience was to be labeled, in the space of a news cycle, a lawbreaking, dishonest, obstructing hack.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi publicly accused Mr. Barr of lying to Congress, which, she added, is “considered a crime.” House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler said he will move to hold Mr. Barr in contempt unless the attorney general acquiesces to the unprecedented demand that he submit to cross-examination by committee staff attorneys. 

James Comey, former director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, lamented that Donald Trump had “eaten” Mr. Barr’s “soul.” Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren demands the attorney general resign. California Rep. Eric Swalwell wants him impeached.

These attacks aren’t about special counsel Robert Mueller, his report or even the surreal debate over Mr. Barr’s first letter describing the report.

The attorney general delivered the transparency Democrats demanded: He quickly released a lightly redacted report, which portrayed the president in a negative light.

What do Democrats have to object to?
 
Some of this is frustration. Democrats foolishly invested two years of political capital in the idea that Mr. Mueller would prove President Trump had colluded with Russia, and Mr. Mueller left them empty-handed. Some of it is personal. Democrats resent that Mr. Barr won’t cower or apologize for doing his job. Some is bitterness that Mr. Barr is performing like a real attorney general, making the call against obstruction-of-justice charges rather than sitting back and letting Democrats have their fun with Mr. Mueller’s obstruction innuendo.


But most of it is likely fear.

Mr. Barr made real news in that Senate hearing, and while the press didn’t notice, Democrats did. The attorney general said he’d already assigned people at the Justice Department to assist his investigation of the origins of the Trump-Russia probe.

He said his review would be far-reaching – that he was obtaining details from congressional investigations, from the ongoing probe by the department’s inspector general, Michael Horowitz, and even from Mr. Mueller’s work.

Mr. Barr said the investigation wouldn’t focus only on the fall 2016 justifications for secret surveillance warrants against Trump team members but would go back months earlier.

He also said he’d focus on the infamous “dossier” concocted by opposition-research firm Fusion GPS and British former spy Christopher Steele, on which the FBI relied so heavily in its probe.

Mr. Barr acknowledged his concern that the dossier itself could be Russian disinformation, a possibility he described as not “entirely speculative.”

He also revealed that the department has “multiple criminal leak investigations under way” into the disclosure of classified details about the Trump-Russia investigation.
