Unshackled! is a radio drama series produced by Pacific Garden Mission, in Chicago, Illinois, that first aired in 1950. It is the longest-running radio drama in history and one of very few still in production in the United States. The show is aired over 6,500 times around the world, each week, on over 1,550 radio outlets and is translated and re-dramatized into eight languages on six continents.

As of March 2008, over 3,000 episodes have been produced, each 30 minutes in length. Unshackled! is produced in the same way that shows during the Golden Age of Radio were produced. Shows are transcribed (recorded) live before a studio audience. An organist provides live incidental music and a sound-effects person provides sounds in real time as the show progresses.

Each episode dramatizes the testimony of someone who converts to Christianity, sometimes involving a visit to Pacific Garden Mission, or through hearing Unshackled! on the radio. Radio episodes include the life stories of baseball-great-turned-evangelist Billy Sunday, who is a Pacific Garden Mission convert, and Dominic Mance, an international banker who became a homeless vagabond nearly overnight. Buying a Compass

I've been a bit hesistant to write this page, because I really didn't want to promote a special brand of compasses or anything. What kind of compass one should buy is a major concern of those who e-mail me, so I figured I would give some advices.

First, I want to emphasize that, while I have tried quite a few types of compasses, they haven't been made by many different manufacturers, and the list of compasses I present here will necessarily be reflecting the fact that I am in one of the Nordic countries, and I know the compasses manufactured around here the most. That doesn't necessarily mean compasses made in e.g. the US or Australia are any worse, I just don't know them.

Finally, my area are orienteering and compasses for hikers. I have very little experience with e.g. naval compasses (though I have tried it too).

What kind of compass you should choose will very much depend on your typical use. However, my general advice would be: Make it as simple as possible.

In competitive orienteering, a small revolution happened at the begining of this decade: Orienteering compasses became a lot more stable and fast over night, as it was discovered by a swedish orienteer that the home-made compasses of russian orienteers were extremely good. You cannot normally tell the difference between a normal compass, and these new compasses, unless you run or perform a simple experiment: Hold the compass flat in your hand, and let the compass needle stop. Now, turn your hand so that the needle is vertical, now you can turn yourself so that when you put the compass flat again, the needle is not pointing north. Observe how fast the needle gets back to pointing north. Actually, with a good compass, this is difficult to do, with a not so good one, it is pretty easy. You can compare how fast different compasses are.

This being said, if you are hiking and not running, a normal compass is by far stable and fast enough for you, and they come at half the prize. While hiking, I doubt you would notice the difference, I am myself not using my best compass for hiking.

So what do I mean by a 'normal compass'? A normal compass has a transparent rectangular base plate, made from some hard plastic, a completely transparent compass housing, filled with some liquid, alcohol or oil normally.

There are a number of further enhancements: Some compasses have mirror instead of the long baseplate. This is to be able to aim more accurately. Actually, this is most convenient when you do a triangulation, a technique I haven't described in these pages simply because I don't find it very useful. My experience is that the improvement is marginal, and it won't help you much if you really need to be accurate. On some compasses you can preset declination, and though I haven't tried it, I think once you've understood declination, it is easy to correct for it.

Now, you may see where I am going: To a very simple compass. All you need is a compass that you can take a course with, and point at a distant object. Why so simple? Consider this scenario: You're hiking in the mountains, with a map and a compass to guide you. Suddenly, the fog is over you, and visibility is down to a few meters (Yes, I have experienced this happening in 5 minutes). These are conditions when you may have to trust your compass with your life. Say you are walking on rocky grounds, looking frequently at your compass to keep the course. Suddenly you fall, and the compass is crushed in your hand.

Fortunately, as long as the compass needle is reasonably intact, a compass will still serve as a compass, and there is a good chance the needle will have survived the fall. Now, the first thing that happens is usually that the housing is punctured, so that the liquid pours out, or there may be a big bubble. This will make the compass a lot more unstable, so you may have to stand still for a long time to get a good bearing. The mirror some compasses have are nice as long as you have something to point at, but then, it isn't really difficult to navigate. Once the visibility is low, that is when it is really difficult, the mirror will not help you much. Additionally, a thick baseplate is more likely to have survived the fall than a mirror, and it is considerably more difficult to get a good bearing without a mirror or a long baseplate. So stick to the baseplate.

As a general principle, one can say that the more features something has, the more things can break (and as a corollary to Murphys law, it probably will...), and if you have made yourself dependent on these features, you'll be in trouble. Always learn how to cope without. Of course you may discuss this, but when something is as essential as a compass, the best way to learn to cope without nifty features, is to live without.

If you are considering buying a GPS unit, you should also consider the points above. I haven't used a GPS unit myself, but it is clear that it will open new territories for people who are not that good at navigating, which I think is very good. However, this is also a problem. There are many things that may render a GPS unit useless, among those something as trivial as a fall. A compass on the other hand is not that likely to be completely useless. The necessity of being able to navigate properly in difficult conditions without a GPS must therefore be stressed.

Many reviews of GPS units I have read give extra points to units with large displays and a intuitive user interface. I think however, that the display is probably the most vulnerable piece of the unit, and should therefore be as small as possible. Also, intuitive user interfaces are good, but of very marginal importance once you've learned to use the unit.

Let me finally introduce you to the compasses I use the most these days.

When I run orienteering, it is very important that the compass is fast and stable, and so, I use a quite expensive compass, the Silva 6 JET. It is a compass to attach to your thumb, it does not have a turnable housing, the typical use is a bit different from what I have described in the tutorials, as it is not so useful in course setting (and not that accurate), but extremely useful in keeping you oriented. I find it very good, and it has a very fast needle.

The other compass I use frequently is also a Silva compass, the Silva Starter which seems to have been replaced with the Silva Field. It is a very simple compass, made for beginners, really and should be quite inexpensive. I use this when I'm hiking.

In addition to these compasses, I've been using Suunto compasses a lot (they have a website, but it is so poorly designed it is inaccessible), and find them good. As previously noted, it was the russians who came up with the new good compasses. Silva bought their recipe imidiately afterwards for their JET series. A number of small russian companies sold very good compasses just after this happened, but few seems to have survived. I have tried one compass of MosCompass (site mostly in russian, on a slow server), and from what I can tell, they are good.

What you should go buying would depend on the issues discussed here, and what is available in your store. I would recommend looking around on the above pages and see how compasses there look, and try to find something similar.

I guess you have noted all the sites that sell freeze dried/ dehydrated foods. These sites don't tell you that canned commercial food remains safe for years, although the taste and nutritional quality may suffer after time.

Many canned products now have a "for best quality use by" date stamped on the top or bottom of the can. "Expiration" dates are rarely found on canned food.

Canned food has an almost indefinite shelf life at moderate temperatures (75° Fahrenheit and below).

Store-Bought Foods

Most canned foods in grocery stores have dates stamped on them indicating when they will provide the best quality and taste, but few have true expiration dates, notes the Canned Food Alliance on its Mealtime.org website.

Commercial canning processes use heat to kill organisms that would cause spoilage, so intact cans keep food edible and safe virtually forever, the alliance notes. Peak flavor and nutrition remain for about two years, however.

Keep canned goods away from heat and moisture. The U.S. Department of Agriculture advises they don't be stored near a stove or sink, or in a damp area. Foods with a lot of acid, such as fruit or tomatoes, are best used up within a year and a half, while other canned foods remain good quality for much longer.

Throw canned foods away if the can leaks or bulges. This indicates spoilage or bacterial contamination according to the Canned Food Alliance. Dents or rust that do not cause leaks will not damage the food inside.

Reading Can Codes

Each canned food manufacturer has a unique coding system. Some manufacturers list day, month and year of production, while other companies reference only the year. These codes are usually imprinted on the top or bottom of the can. Other numbers may appear and reference the specific plant manufacturing or product information and are not useful to consumers. If you have specific questions about a company's product, most manufacturers offer a toll-free number to call for questions about canned food expiration dates

Note: For month coding, if a number is used, numbers 1 through 9 represent January through September, and letters O for October, N for November and D for December. If letters are used, A=Jan. and L=Dec., unless otherwise noted.

Can canned food be heated in its container?

A. Yes. If it is necessary to heat canned food in the container, the top must be removed to prevent pressure build-up. The opened container may be covered loosely with a piece of aluminum foil. Then place the can in a saucepan of hot water and simmer on the stove top. Food cans should never be placed in a microwave for heating. To heat canned food in the microwave, open the can and place the contents in a microwave-safe container.

So if you want to purchase good "survival food" you don't have to purchase freeze dried/dehydrated foods that will last 20 years. Canned foods that are not damaged will also last for years and they are much cheaper.

Its almost a survival scam when it comes to some companies telling you to be prepared by buying foods that are freeze dried/dehydrated etc.

Just go to the grocery stor and stock up on canned goods. This is the best and cheapest way to be prepared.

Of course if your on the move freeze dried/dehydrated foods would be better and easier to carry in a back pack etc.

The Deal on Food Dates

“Freshness Date” or “Best if Used By Date”:

This tells you how long a food will be fresh and at top quality if it is stored properly. After that date, the product may still be safe to eat, but may not taste as good.
Foods with freshness dates: Bread, salad dressing, raisins and cereal. Many canned products have a “for best quality use by” date stamped on the top or bottom of the can. “Expiration” dates are rarely found on canned food.

Save the Date

• Check dates as you store food.
• Find a product with no date? Label it with the purchase date.
• Place newly purchased items behind existing versions of the same item so older items are used first (first in, first out).

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. — The Marine Corps has created its first law-enforcement battalions.

Military police, who graduate from academies just like civilian cops.

The battalions will be capable of helping control civil disturbances, handling detainees, carrying out forensic work, and using biometrics to identify suspects.

The "war on terror" has also taught troops the importance of learning how to gather intelligence, secure evidence and assist local authorities in building cases to take down criminal networks. Troops have gotten better at combing raid sites for clues to help them track insurgents.

The Department of Homeland Security has been directly involved with the militarization of our local police forces across the country since its inception. DHS along with the Army, under NORTHCOM, have been actively taking an increasingly Un-Constitutional and direct role in the policing of American citizens. Fusion centers all across the country have been set up to coordinate and link together the investigative and enforcement capabilities of the local police, state troopers, Army and National Guard.

On the surface this may seem like a good idea, until you realize that the Posse Comitatus Act established in 1878 was meant to disallow the military from engaging in civilian policing on American soil. This was due to the fact that standing armies were commonly used in police states that were totalitarian in nature. This is a characteristic we are seeing more and more of in the United States.



These Fusion Centers are federally funded with no government oversight; they are out there doing what ever they wish to the unsuspecting and unknowing public. Routine spying on Americans is now localized through the fusion centers operations, which have included collaboration with the CIA. Previous to this there was a ban on CIA intelligence operations in the U.S.

The internal documents of the DHS state that “right-wing extremists” are potential terrorists, along with Iraq war veterans, Afghanistan war veterans, and citizens who support candidates like Ron Paul. The rhetoric is disturbing as it targets Americans for their beliefs (thought police), which is Orwellian in nature.

The security apparatus is being turned inward in dramatic fashion under the guise of rooting out radical extremists.

More and more, in dealing with nonviolent political protesters police across America show up in battlefield dress with intimidating military gear supplied by the Pentagon and Homeland Security.

Homeland Security Classifies Returning US Veterans as Potential Terrorist Threat

This is what the Department of Homeland Security thinks about our military men and women who are overseas fighting on our behalf:


"The return of military veterans facing significant challenges reintegrating into their communities could lead to the potential emergence of terrorist groups or lone wolf extremists capable of carrying out violent attacks."

"Returning veterans possess combat skills and experience that are attractive to right-wing extremists,” it says. “DHS/I&A is concerned that right-wing extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize veterans in order to boost their violent capacities."

The memo, titled "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment" was released to police agencies across the country to warn against what the Department of Homeland Security believes may be an increased threat of domestic terrorism.

The DHS memo says that the election of Barack Obama, coupled with recent economic troubles and members of the military returning from wars in Afghanistan and Iraq might lead extremist groups to recruit more veterans with combat experience. According to the memo, the election of the first African-american president in U.S. history has influenced more white supremacist groups to increase recruiting efforts.

According to CBS, NBC and ABC News, dirtball James Holmes spent $15,000 on guns, ammo and bomb making material since at least December 18th, 2011 up to July 18th, 2012. Dirtball James Holmes was pulling down $1,700 per month through his Federal grant at the University of Colorado of which he paid rent, internet access, adult dating services, food, transportation, gas, car insurance etc., etc.. The numbers do not compute, out of the $1,700 stipend he would spend at least $1,500 just getting by, so where did the extra $16 Grand come from, who or what group financed this dirtball JAMES HOLMES.

Aurora Shooter Militant Occupy Black Bloc Member?


Private Detective Bill Warner is reporting at his site that the Aurora, CO theatre mass murderer James E. Holmes was apparently a member of the Occupy movement’s “elite” militant and violent Black Bloc unit. There is also a photo on the site showing Holmes being arrested by what appear to be San Diego police.

We already know that Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and a number of other Democrat lawmakers have praised the Occupy “movement” and Obama-mentor and boss George Soros has heavily financed it. Now, with the Black Bloc Uber-violent segment and its apparent hit-man James Holmes beginning to look, sound and feel like another ObamaFriend Bill Ayers’ Weather Underground, we finally know who is really behind this violence.

The new Batman movie–third of the trilogy–is extremely critical of the Occupy movement. It strongly appears that Holmes didn’t like that characterization. So, he killed 12 people and injured at least 71 others with a hail of bullets directed at the moviegoers. If Holmes’ tie in to the Occupy Black Bloc unit is allowed to come to the light of day, it will finally be known that the Obama Police State will no longer allow anyone to even listen to those who criticize the dictator.

Every day now we are reminded that we have, indeed, reached that critical time in our country’s history to decide whether we want to live in Luciferian tyranny and suppression as slaves under the growing Obama police state or fight and perhaps die to bring back and ensure liberty for our children and grandchildren.

The Obama War has begun on multiple fronts and, also, includes roving gangs of black teens who are seeking out non-blacks (especially whites) to maim and kill. These are happening more and more frequently and do not appear to be waning. Under Obama’s rule, the USA has not only become a 3rd world country but, Obama has driven race relations to all time lows…if not into non-existence.

It is now apparent that Obama and his operatives will do anything to reelect the usurper;. Even murder–including this latest version of Ayers’ Weather Underground–may no longer be an obstacle. Will We-the-People have the courage, will and honor to stop him? Will we? We may be forced to decide that answer even sooner than we anticipated.

Location and Operation

Rabbits live in areas where good escape cover is available--in brushpiles, briar patches and thick fencerows. They also prefer low-cut bluegrass mixed with clovers and shrubs. In order to catch rabbits, the box trap must be placed in or along the runs or trails made by rabbits using these areas.

Opinions vary as to the importance of baits for the box trap. Some prefer baits such as apples, carrots or corn, while others use no bait at all. Baits may attract opossums and skunks in search of an easy meal.

The best trap going for the survivor is the box trap. Box traps are cheap to build using old scrap lumber or outdoor plywood. Box traps are easy on the critters trapped, unlike snares or steel traps that usually kill or maim the game that gets in them, game caught in a box traps are kept safe from hungry predators until the trapper returns to check the trap. Often trappers using other trapping methods, will return to the trap site only to find where some lucky predator has made an easy meal of his catch.

Fifty years ago every farm boy knew how to build and use this type of trap, now the skill has been lost to all but a few old timers. Today our population is much more interested in watching TV or playing video games, than learning any useful skill. Which is sad, because one day a simple skill such as constructing a homemade box trap could make the difference between going to bed hungry or with a full stomach…

(This is another post in my quest to educate myself and others about surviving. The future looks like its going back to the 1930's and worse. Obama is doing everything he can to destroy the economy while telling you he is doing everything he can to create jobs and "stimulate" the economy.

The writing is on the wall. Today people depend on the local grocery store for food. Most don't depend on themselves but depend on the government. Back in the 1930's depression it was different more people had farms and knew how to survive. The people in the cities had to stand in long lines for food..any food.

Anybody can trap wild game. I think it does take patience and some practice.
