Every subversive organization and organization subject to foreign control shall register with the Secretary of State on forms prescribed by him within thirty days after coming into existence in this State.

The people who passed this law in SC are stone cold CRAZY if they think a subversive organization will register with The Secretary of State and pay a $5 filing fee.

In the last two weeks alone the public learned (1) that the U.N. claim that man-made climate change would melt Himalayan glaciers by 2035 was fiction, the speculation of one man whose guess was reported in a magazine then played as scientific fact; (2) that federal researchers left out temperature data from cold regions; and (3) that the U.N. was wrong in its contention that "the rapidly rising costs" of natural disasters since the 1970s is linked to global warming.

The climate change movement is losing its credibility at a pace much faster than any warming it predicted yet obama is still pushing the "global warming" con.

The real CON is obama.

Obama announced the formation of a new federal agency to study and report on global warming.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke announced “the intent to create a NOAA Climate Service line office dedicated to bringing together the agency’s strong climate science and service delivery capabilities.”

(Obama is going to use NOAA to push the CON of global warming as real. He is going to make NOAA a "public relations firm" to scam America. Obama is in effect going to skew the numbers using NOAA. Its the same thing his is doing with other agencies of the government. It will become another propaganda outlet to trick the public into believing in "global warming.") Story Reports

The same NOAA recently accused of intentionally manipulating the surface based temperature data sets it produces in order to bias worldwide climate trend analyses to the warm side and help foment carbon hysteria.

But the seemingly peculiar timing of the announcement was perhaps no accident. NOAA’s official announcement refers to the new service as a “reorganization” of the parent agency, promising that “[u]nifying NOAA’s climate capabilities under a single climate office will integrate the agency’s climate science and services and make them more accessible to NOAA partners and other users.”

It appears that what we have here is the Obama administration hastily attempting to redeem NOAA’s sullied reputation before the full weight of the hammer drops – as it has for its partners in crime over at the IPCC. Speaking of which, Ecofactory reports that the administration believes its new program will “challeng[e] the IPCC as the gold standard for research in this field.” In fact, they expect the move to “help shore up the public's mistrust of climate science and ‘regain the consensus’ lost by the recent scandals that have troubled the United Nations IPCC.”

Good luck with that one, guys. As they used to say in Dodge – you can’t put the excrement back in the mule.

THE BIG CON OF GLOBAL WARMING:

NOAA has selectively removed 75% of the world’s temperature stations from cooler locales, but further corrupted its widely disseminated data by replacing the readings from the removed stations with those of warmer stations.

And while the Obama administration needs no reaffirmation of its astounding cluelessness regarding the extent of “the public’s mistrust of climate science,” here’s more from NOAA’s announcement nonetheless:

WASHINGTON (AP) - A spokesman says Democratic Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania, a retired Marine Corps officer who became an outspoken critic of the Iraq war, has died. He was 77.

He had been suffering complications from gallbladder surgery.

Murtha's congressional career was clouded by questions about his ethics—from the Abscam corruption probe in 1980 to more recent investigations into the special-interest spending known as earmarks and the raising of cash for election campaigns.

While serving as a Representative from Pennsylvania, Murtha called Marines from 3d Battalion, 1st Marines “cold blooded killers” who “murdered innocent civilians.” Before an investigation into the Haditha incident was even conducted, Murtha went on numerous television news programs and announced that the Marines “went into houses and killed women and children.”

He said, “There’s no question in my mind about what happened here. There was no gunfire, they killed four people in a taxi…24 people were killed.” When asked specifically if he claimed that innocent civilians were intentionally executed by Marines, he said, “That’s exactly what happened.” Not content to slander those Marines directly involved, he went on to claim that if these Marines were not punished, “other Marines would say well I’ll do the same thing.” Murtha then continued to use this incident to lobby for the immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq, citing it as evidence that our military was incapable of winning the war.

Eight Marines were originally charged. As of March 17th, 2009 all charges were dropped against six Marines, one was found not guilty on all counts in courts martial. The prosecution has delayed the court martial of the final defendant indefinitely. The original allegations of a massacre and the statements of Congressman Murtha have been thoroughly discredited. Despite the facts, John Murtha refuses to apologize to those he slandered.

The “Slow Bleed Strategy” of john murtha

Let’s journey back to February 2007. At this time, the U.S. was approaching its 4th anniversary in Iraq, the military death toll had passed 3,000, and Iraqi civilians were caught in the middle of a furious sectarian battle that had been kicked into overdrive by the bombing of the Golden Mosque in Samarra.

General David Petraeus had just been tapped to take over Multinational Force-Iraq, and was ramping up a “surge” in troops there in preparation for the implementation of his counterinsurgency doctrine in the theater — a comprehensive overhaul of Iraq war strategy that would ultimately prove to be incredibly successful. Democrats in the House had just passed a non-binding resolution condemning the “surge” in troops (Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called this a “symbolic victory in the fight over the Iraq War,” despite the fact that the Senate version of the resolution fell 4 votes short of cloture. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said “It’s pretty clear that a resolution that in effect says that the general going out to take command of the arena shouldn’t have the resources he thinks he needs to be successful certainly emboldens the enemy and our adversaries”).

This was the setting for perhaps the most insidious move of Jack Murtha’s career, if not his life: the design and introduction of what he called a “Slow Bleed Strategy” designed to deprive soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines in Iraq of the supplies — bullets, armor, etc. — they needed not only to push forward in Iraq, but to keep themselves alive while there. The rationale behind Murtha’s aptly — if appallingly — named Slow Bleed Strategy was that, if the supply chain to our troops in combat could be forced to dry up, enough of America’s warfighters would be killed in action that President Bush would have no choice but to “redeploy” our military men and women out of Iraq and back to America.

That’s right: Murtha became one of the only leaders in the history of warfare to advocate, rather than fight to the death to prevent, the drying up of his own military’s lanes of resupply. Not even Benedict Arnold attempted an act so insidious that it was more worthy of an enemy sleeper agent than a sitting Member of Congress.

Murtha announced this Slow Bleed Strategy in mid-February of ‘07, announcing at a press conference that House Democratic leaders had joined forces with several leftist “anti-war” groups (such as the “Win without war coalition,” “Americans against the escalation of the war in Iraq,” and others) in a combined legislative- and multimillion-dollar advertising campaign whose purpose would be to undermine the President’s authority as Commander in Chief of the nation’s fighting forces by “limiting the administration’s options” through the passage of legislation and the inclusion of several stipulations for receipt of funding in appropriations bills.

In other words, as mentioned above, Murtha’s plan was to force the President to withdraw our troops from Iraq, either immediately or after thousands more had been killed due to a termination of resupply efforts.

(Only a bastard would cut off supplies to our troops. I'm sure murtha fits this description. Obama also has a “Slow Bleed Strategy” for the US economy. Liberal democrates like murtha and obama are more than willing to "cut off supplies" to US troops or American civilians to further their radical agenda. Jack Murtha used the fractured home front to push his agenda of ending a war he disagreed with at any cost — both human and political. As a leader within the party in control of the legislative branch of government, he sought to “slowly bleed” the war effort until it was dry of funds with which to purchase bullets, body armor, and other supplies, while also seeking to whip the American public into such an “anti-war,” anti-military frenzy that the dwindling number of surviving Iraq war veterans would be even more reviled than his fellow Vietnam veterans were in their day.

If your per-year life cost exceeds the state-mandated threshhold, you won’t get the health care. Are you a military veteran over 59 who risked everything for your country? No heart by-pass surgery for you, you expensive old goat!

The "health care" bill provides for mandatory euthanasia counseling for senior citizens every five years AND whenever they receive a diagnosis of terminal illness (page 425, House version of the bill — H.R.3200, America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009).

But we are not just talking about those very near the end of life. The specific wording in the bill is:

….if there is a significant change in the health condition of the individual, including diagnosis of a chronic, progressive, life-limiting disease, a life-threatening or terminal diagnosis or life-threatening injury, or upon admission to a skilled nursing facility, a long-term care facility (as defined by the Secretary), or a hospice program.

Just a “life-limiting” disease is enough to trigger the state’s interest in you. Down’s Syndrome? Muscular dystrophy? Alzheimer’s? Senile dementia? You could be encouraged to “go home” early.

But even if you are in fairly good shape, and you are past middle age, you have cause for concern.

(I would say this is a DEATH PANEL that decides if you are WORTHY OF LIFE using an amount obama has decided it will cost the state. The older you are the less the government DEATH PANEL will pay out for your medical need. This is a fact. It is not assuming anything. I talked with IDIOTS that deny this is in the bill. This document is invalid. It does not display a certificate number or state seal. This document cannot be validated. It does not indicate date accepted by registrar but date filed by registrar. The document obama has produced has never been accepted by the registrar but only filed by registrar. If it was valid obama could confirm he had his original long form certificate of live birth ammended.

Obama is claiming by displaying this fake certification of live birth that he was born in Hawaii. Nothing can be verified about his claims. His mother and father can't be verified. The hospital where he was born can't be verified. The registrar that did not accept his fake certification of live birth cannot be verified. The doctor attending his birth can't be verified. This is because only the long form certificate of live birth can be verified.

Obama has paid his lawyers millions to keep his long form under seal in Hawaii. All Americans must question why he has done this. All Americans must question why the document he has produced has no document number and no state seal. All Americans must question why obama has not answered the questions about where he was born.

It is not an original birth certificate.

It is a certificate of live birth (COLB) which was issued some time afterward, and is no more than an affidavit. Hawaii has long allowed this practice when births were in fact in other countries. The only verification done by Hawaii is that there was a birth, and it was live. That’s not the issue, however. The real issue is where he was born. Obama had the original document sealed, and that’s why everyone is saying he has not provided proof of his citizenship, which is correct. Americans must provide their birth certificate when they join the service, get married, apply for a driver’s license, and get their first job. Why is the president-elect immune from this law?

Other key evidences here that this is not an original document are the “OHSM 1.1 (Rev 11/01) LASER” footnote on the bottom left margin, signifying the a laser copy (document version 1.1) made by the Office of Health Systems Management in November 2001. This implies there was an earlier document. But there is something more subtle — a stamp on the reverse side, inked through the paper backwards. If you flip it horizontally and enlarge it, you can see the stamped date.

This stamped date would likely be the date of a requested copy. So basically, this is a copy (2006) of a copy (2001) of an affidavit (date?) of a possibly valid original. Sound complicated? It gets worse…much worse…

Lawyers learn about the logical fallacies in law school.

Logic is a tool to help people arrive at dependable conclusions. Logic is related to such disciplines as epistemological protocol, scientific methodology, and rules of evidence.

Like most tools, logic can be used for good or evil. Lawyers will sometimes use what they learned about logical fallacies to create false impressions rather than reveal the truth.

Top surgeons who work in the National Health Service confirmed the feasibility of the explosive implants.

Explosive experts at Britain's Porton Down biological and chemical warfare research center told MI5 that a sachet containing as little as five ounces of PETN when activated would blow "a considerable hole" in an airline's skin which would guarantee it would crash.

Obama makes a slow learner comment about Las Vegas

A year after President Barack Obama remarked during a town hall meeting that corporations using federal bailout money should stop visiting Las Vegas, he made a similar comment at another town hall today in reference to the down economy.

"This isn't how responsible families do their budgets. When times are tough, you tighten your belts," he said at a New Hampshire forum today. "You don't go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don't blow a bunch of cash in Vegas when you're trying to save for college. You prioritize. You make tough choices. And it's time your government did the same."

In response to criticism this afternoon, Obama wrote a letter to Sen. Harry Reid saying "there's no better place to have fun than Vegas." In his letter, which was addressed to "Harry," he wrote:

"I hope you know that during my Town Hall today, I wasn’t saying anything negative about Las Vegas. I was making the simple point that families use vacation dollars, not college tuition money, to have fun," Obama wrote. "There is no place better to have fun than Vegas, one of our country’s great destinations. I have always enjoyed my visits, look forward to visiting in a few weeks, and hope folks will visit in record numbers this year."

But Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman delivered a double-barreled verbal blast at Obama for telling people not to spend their money in Las Vegas during the town hall forum.

Obama is "no friend to Las Vegas" and "I think he has a psychological hangup about us," Goodman told reporters he gathered into his office at City Hall.

Goodman, whose face became red as he spoke at his desk, said he was "incredulous" when he heard that Obama had again attacked the city and that a simply apology was not enough this time to undo the damage.

"It has to be a real mea culpa and a promise not to do it again," Goodman said.

"You don't cite Las Vegas as the specific example each time you're talking about spending money. That's what I'm saying," Goodman said. "You could tell people they should save their money to send their kids to college. There's nothing wrong with that. And that's the end of the statement. You don't need 'and blow your money in Las Vegas.'"

Obama's comments last year that corporations using federal bailout money should stop visiting Las Vegas were part of the reason the area lost a chunk of its convention business, he said.

"I can't attribute the 341 lost meetings just to the president's comments. But I'll tell you one thing: He sure doesn't help us," Goodman said.

Shortly after Obama's remarks, Gov. Jim Gibbons fired at Obama's town hall comment.

"How dare he insult any American city," Gibbons said before meeting with Nevada school superintendents in Carson City today. "I'm writing a letter to him today telling him to tone down or temper his remarks about Las Vegas. This is another slap in the face of the hard-working families in Nevada."

Goodman today said there's nothing wrong with Las Vegas' infrastructure -- it's the fact that the economic downturn across the country is bringing fewer visitors, thus creating a 13 percent jobless rate.

"If you come to Las Vegas, you're going to get the best of everything," he said. "You're going to get the best shows. You're going to get the best food. You're going to do the best shopping. Stay at the nicest hotels. But the people aren't coming with money. That's the difference between now and maybe three years ago."

"Every time he talks about people spending money in Las Vegas, it has to hurt us," he said. "It's a natural consequence of his statement."

"He's got his own psychological quirk up there about Las Vegas," Goodman said. "That's our town, folks. You should be angry about it, too."

"I want the president to straighten this out," Goodman said. "If not, he's not welcome in my city, as far as I'm concerned. He's not our friend. I don't know about people in Nevada, but in Las Vegas, he's sure not our friend."

Goodman said he didn't care if he received criticism again for going after the president.

"What? Little weenies are going to criticize me? Forgetaboutit. I could care less about that," he said. "I'm the mayor, I'm trying to protect Las Vegas. And I don't care what these little pundits say."

"I think he has a psychological hangup about us," he said. Because apparently, these statements are not the ones that are on the monitors. He does fine on the monitors. You get him off the monitors and Las Vegas creeps into his mind. He's got a problem with us. I don't know what it is."

At a banquet/fundraiser for the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California last weekend, the first speaker was Arif Alikhan (Deputy Mayor ofLos Angeles - in charge of public safety for the city). ROCK HILL — Each Friday afternoon, guidance counselor Frank Palermo quietly pulls students out of class at Rosewood Elementary in Rock Hill.

They follow him to his office and to a secret cabinet of food supplies. A chorus of childhood thank-yous breaks out as Palermo drops gallon-sized bags filled with food into each of their book bags.

Dry cereal.

Snack bars.

Cups of peaches.

Juice boxes.

Food that even small children can prepare on their own.

In a sign of South Carolina’s struggling economy, the Rock Hill school district and at least four Midlands school districts are participating in programs that feed students during the weekends.

“If we didn’t do this, these children wouldn’t get enough to eat over the weekend. Some wouldn’t get anything to eat at all,” said Serena Williams, a Rock Hill school district employee who oversees the secret food drops.

Sponsored solely through private donations, these “backpacking” programs provide food during weekends to the state’s growing number of poor children.

The Rock Hill school district and its foundation started the “Back the Pack Program” two years ago after a survey of teachers, nurses, guidance counselors and others found chronic hunger was one reason students were not achieving in the classroom.

Nurses reported a steady stream of students complaining of stomach pains and headaches.

“They weren’t stomach aches. They were hunger pains,” said John Kirell, principal of Belleview Elementary in Rock Hill, where about 30 students receive the food packs every Friday.

In the survey, teachers talked of students cleaning their plates at lunch time, then asking for scraps off of their fellow students’ plates.

Guidance counselors shared stories of mothers and fathers who had lost their jobs and could no longer put food on the table.

“We have a strict rule that food can’t leave the cafeteria,” Kirell said. “We knew there was a problem when it became worth the risk for children to put crackers or cheese sticks in their pockets and try to sneak it past their teachers.

“Children are forthright. When we ask, they tell us that they’re saving it for a snack at home or they’re taking it home for a younger brother or sister that isn’t in school yet,” he said.

Obama voted to kill a baby born alive while a state senator in Illinois so it should not be a surprise he would starve children also.

Amend Title To Conform

Whereas, the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights established a federal government limited in scope and guarantee of personal liberty so that our citizens will be free to pursue their inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as recognized in the Declaration of Independence; and

Whereas, the Ninth Amendment to the United States Constitution provides that "The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people"; and

Whereas, pursuant to the Ninth Amendment, the people are guaranteed the right to privacy as a basic human right; and

Whereas, the delivery, administration, and receipt of medical care affects personal privacy and involves the most intimate and personal of choices; and

Whereas, the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution provides that "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people"; and

Whereas, the Tenth Amendment defines the limited scope of federal power as being that specifically granted by the United States Constitution; and

Whereas, pursuant to the Tenth Amendment, by limiting the scope of federal power to only those specifically enumerated in the United States Constitution, the states retain plenary power to govern; and

Whereas, despite the clear limitations placed upon it by the United States Constitution, the federal government has steadily expanded its reach into the lives of our citizens and, in so doing, violates the very principles upon which this nation was founded; and

Whereas, the United States Supreme Court has said that states have great latitude in regulating medical care and standards, which have historically and constitutionally been primary state responsibilities and affect areas of core state responsibility, yet Congress and the President are reaching agreement over legislation that will result in the federal government absorbing the regulation of medical care, stripping the states of most responsibility, and taking away the free choice of the citizens of the states; and

Whereas, the federal government has spent trillions of dollars of borrowed money to run deficits, to bail out financial institutions, to prop-up auto makers, and to keep afloat other private enterprises that were mismanaged, took unnecessary risks, or were unresponsive to market demands, thus amassing a debt that will loom over and burden our country for generations to come; and

Whereas, the federal government habitually responds to its annual budget shortfalls by burdening the states with unfunded mandates, shifting costs for programs to the states, limiting state flexibility, and interfering with state revenue systems, undermining the constitutionally created balance between federal and state government; and

Whereas, the United States Supreme Court has ruled that Congress may not simply commandeer the legislative and regulatory processes of the states, and that states may provide their citizens with protections that exceed the protections by the federal government; and

Whereas, the United States Supreme Court has ruled that the United States Constitution allows states to grant rights to their citizens in their state constitutions, beyond rights granted in the federal Constitution; and

Whereas, the United States Supreme Court has recognized that federal law restricting certain rights may be ineffective in denying those rights protected in state Constitutions; and

Whereas, the State recognizes that as an independent sovereign, the State along with the other states of the union took part in an extensive bargaining process through the adoption of the Constitution and the various amendments thereto, and like any other party to any other agreement, the State is bound to uphold the terms and conditions of that agreement. Through this agreement, the states have collectively created the federal government, limiting the scope of its power and authority, as well as ensuring that certain fundamental rights are guaranteed. Also, through this process the federal judiciary has interpreted the Fourteenth Amendment to limit states' governmental authority by providing that important rights and protections afforded by the United States Constitution to the people as citizens of the United States are also extended to each person as a citizen of an individual state. Pursuant to that interpretation, this State is bound to uphold the principles and protections afforded by the Fourteenth Amendment which guarantees the privileges and immunities of the United States, due process of law, and equal protection under the law; and

Whereas, the federal government is considering legislation that may, among other things, obligate residents in South Carolina and other states to purchase health insurance; and

Whereas, the federal government is considering legislation that may, among other things, mandate that this State and other states increase its spending for Medicaid; and

Whereas, the General Assembly of this State reaffirms that the people of this State, have collectively, through the exercise of their authority as citizens of a sovereign state determined the constitutional balance of power in this State; and

Whereas, the citizens of this State have exercised their sovereign authority both directly through the passage of this state's constitution and the amendments thereto and representatively through their duly elected representatives in the General Assembly, and the General Assembly exercises the power of the people without limitation except as provided by the State Constitution; and

Whereas, one of the most fundamental powers of any state in the exercise of its sovereignty is through the power of appropriation and under our state's constitutional balance of power, the power of appropriation is firmly placed within the province of the General Assembly; and

Whereas, the General Assembly rejects any attempt by the federal government, either through the actions of the Congress or the federal courts, to limit, alter, or otherwise affect in any manner whatsoever the General Assembly's sovereign exercise of the power of appropriation; and

Whereas, there is concern that the federal government will also overstep its authority and violate the Tenth and the Second Amendments of the United States Constitution by enacting far-reaching restrictions or even a ban on gun purchases and ownership; and

Whereas, the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution provides: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"; and

Whereas, intervention by armed South Carolinians may prove to be the sole means for this State to protect the liberties guaranteed it and all other States under the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution; and

Whereas, due to the potential need for intervention by armed South Carolinians, the protections afforded under the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution are of upmost importance to the citizens of South Carolina and the State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, it is vitally important for the future of our nation that the states stand against the relentless expansion of the federal government and restore the proper balance to our federal system. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, claims for the State of South Carolina sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the United States Constitution.

Be it further resolved that it is the policy of the State of South Carolina that:

No law shall interfere with the right of a person to be treated by or receive services from a health care provider of that person's choice;

No law shall restrict a person's freedom of choice of private health care systems or private health care plans of any type;

No law shall interfere with a person's or an entity's right to pay directly for lawful medical services; and

No law shall impose a tax, penalty, or fine, of any type, for choosing a health care provider, to obtain or decline health care coverage or for participation in any particular health care system or plan.

Be it further resolved that it is the policy of the State of South Carolina that the Attorney General will challenge the constitutionality of any provision enacted by the United States Congress that would violate any of the policies established by this resolution and join with other states that are like-minded to make such a challenge.

Be it further resolved that no state agency, agent, department, instrumentality, or subdivision shall cooperate or participate in any way with any mandate passed by Congress upon notification by the Attorney General that the mandate has been successfully challenged in a court of competent jurisdiction, and further provided that there is not an order to the contrary by a court of competent jurisdiction.

Be it further resolved that the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, claims for the citizens of South Carolina and the State of South Carolina freedom from all laws and mandates that violate the rights granted under the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution.

Be it further resolved that this resolution serves as notice and demand to the federal government, as South Carolina's agent, to cease and desist immediately all mandates that are beyond the scope of the federal government's constitutionally delegated powers.

Be it further resolved that the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, affirms its support of the Ninth and Tenth Amendments to the United States Constitution.

Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be forwarded to the President of the United States, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, the President of the United States Senate, and each member of South Carolina's Congressional Delegation, all at Washington, D.C., and to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Senate of the legislatures of the other forty-nine states.

Obama has appointed his "voodoo priests" or czars to "cast spells" on the economy. His czars efforts have resulted in a failure. Obama is similar to the Haiti's "supreme master" of voodoo. Believers worship hundreds of spirits called lwa. Other beliefs include that trees have spirits. Max Beauvoir, Haiti's "supreme master" of voodoo, alleged his faith's opponents had deliberately prevented much-needed help from reaching followers of the religion, which blends the traditional beliefs of West African slaves with Roman Catholicism.

"The evangelicals are in control and they take everything for themselves," he claimed. "They have the advantage that they control the airport where everything is stuck. They take everything they get to their own people and that's a shame.

"Everyone is suffering the same and has the same needs. We are not asking for anything more than anyone else. We're just asking for it to be fair."

Mr Beauvoir, 75, a Sorbonne-educated biochemist, spoke as a first convoy of aid arrived at his home in Mariani, a town just outside Port-au-Prince. It contained 400 sacks of rice from the World Food Programme and was mobbed by hundreds of hungry voodoo believers.

"It is the first delivery and it took a couple of weeks fight to get that for the voodoo people," said Mr Beauvoir.

At the weekend hundreds of voodoo houngans, or priests, gathered in the northern town of Gonaives to plan how to react to the earthquake that left an estimated 200,000 people dead on Jan 12.

Following the earthquake the US television evangelist Pat Roberston said Haiti made a "pact with the devil" 200 years ago when it defeated French colonists.

"I don't know much about him and I don't think I'm losing much," said Mr Beauvoir. "Voodoo as been discriminated against for 200 years.

"It was developed by our ancestors, it is a way of life. To ask us to stop would be like asking an American to stop heating hamburgers."

He also rejected the idea that voodoo consists of human sacrifices and sticking pins in dolls.

"That's Hollywood voodoo," he said. "No-one from Hollywood has ever sent an anthropologist to study voodoo in Haiti."

In Haitian voodoo, God is supreme and is not involved in human affairs.

Believers instead worship hundreds of spirits called lwa. Other beliefs include that trees have spirits.

As she waited for rice from the WFP Monique Henri, 36 wore a cross round her neck but she also believes in voodoo. She said she had an image of Ogu Feri , the voodoo god of metal and fire, at her home .

"The earthquake happened because people were sinners so God was angry, because people did wrong," she said..

Clavarus Filisca, 72, a houngan, invokes the spirit of Jambe Male to heal people of fevers, headaches and other maladies. "Voodoo is the most important religion. It's natural, it's everywhere," he said.

Mr Beauvoir rejected the suggestion that the earthquake was an act of God. He says it was a natural event but many voodoo followers still believe it was a punishment.

Christians have also been inundating radio stations asking anyone who has committed a crime to confess, thereby saving the nation from future disasters.

Inspiration, an evangelical station, said 11,000 people had rung up to pledge themselves to God since the earthquake.

Missionaries equating voodoo with devil worship have long tried to convert the population of Haiti but the religion, a mixture of Christianity and animism, remains ingrained. Like Christianity it has one God but incorporates pagan elements such as spell casting and calling spirits.

Mr Beauvoir’s grand house, the Peristyle de Mariani, is a voodoo temple where followers dance around a totem pole in the grounds to the sound of drums. Bonfires are lighted to attract spirits and the blood of animals, including goats and chickens, is drained and used to heal the sick.

However, since the earthquake, he has halted all ceremonies. “This is a big shock for people to absorb,” he said. Voodoo ceremonies are still going on in the countryside.

The elaborate ceremonies include secret languages, people dancing after being possessed by spirits and talismans including dried animal heads.

In rural areas there are said to be people who practice the darker side of voodoo, summoning evil spirits. However, practitioners argue that voodoo is a force for good.

Kompe Filo, one of the most popular TV and radio personalities in Haiti, and a vocal believer, said voodoo predicted the earthquake six months ago.

He said: “God is angry against humanity, not just Haiti but all humanity. This is a message that man must change, and reconnect with the natural world around him.

“We have a lot of beliefs modern people should believe in. For example we believe that trees have spirits which we should not harm otherwise we will all suffer.”

(Note the last line. Exactly the same line that radical environmentalists use when telling us the erath must be saved from humans. Obama uses a very similar line to promote socialism/communism. He is always telling Americans its their fault he has failed. Obama in fact is a successful failure.
