Don’t Use Gulf Crisis to Raid Trust Fund, Force BP-Endorsed National Energy Tax

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following remarks on the Senate floor Wednesday Jun 9, 2010 regarding Democrat efforts to use the oil spill liability trust fund to pay for new, unrelated spending:

Our nation faces many urgent crises at the moment. Americans are looking for solutions. They’re not getting any from Washington. Whether it’s the housing crisis, the financial crisis, the debt crisis, or the crisis in the Gulf, what they’re getting is a White House and a Democrat majority in Congress that seems more intent on pursuing a government-driven political agenda than in finding common-sense solutions to the problems that ail us.

Americans are exasperated by all this, but they shouldn’t be surprised — because if there’s one motto that defines this administration, it the one that was delivered by the White House chief of staff in a revealing moment just after the President’s election. I’m referring, of course, to what Mr. Emanuel famously referred to as “Rule One: Never allow a crisis go to waste.”

It’s a fitting slogan for an administration that saw a crisis at some of America’s great auto-making firms as an opportunity for government to extend its reach into industrial policy; which saw the panic on Wall Street as an opportunity for government to extend its reach further into Main Street; which saw out-of-control costs in health care as an opportunity to extend government’s reach further into the health care decisions of every American; and which is now talking about using a nightmarish environmental calamity in the Gulf as a prime opportunity to extend government’s reach even further into Americans’ lives through a new job-killing national energy tax that would hit every single household and business, small or large, in America.

Think about it: for more than fifty straight days, an underwater geyser of oil now roughly the size of Vermont has been polluting the Gulf. This is the kind of crisis that in the past would have united the nation in a focused effort to solve the problem. And yet day after day, as this toxic oil continues to flow, what we get from the administration is some new twist on the blame game or some ham-handed effort to appear in control of the situation.

(This is what you get because of the man-child president makes decisions like a child. He can't make up his mind and when he does it the wrong decision. Obama acts like a kid. Obama the kid blames the other kid "bp" or everybody else. The man-child obama does not have the ability to make a logical decision to help bp stop the oil spill. Meanwhile, here in Congress, we’re getting much the same thing: the deficit Extenders Bill that’s now on the floor was supposed to be about giving job creators some assurance that the tax benefits they’re currently receiving, and which they depend on to retain workers will be there the next time they have to make a major business-related decision.

Yet Democrats are using this bill as another opportunity to extend government’s reach. Desperate for funds to bail out government programs, they’re raiding a trust fund that was created — get this — to pay for just the kind of cleanup we now need in the Gulf. They’re quintupling the tax oil companies pay into the oil spill liability trust fund that was created in the wake of Exxon Valdez, and instead of using this money to clean up the oil spewing in the Gulf, they’re raiding the trust fund to pay for new, unrelated spending.

In other words, they’re using the crisis in the Gulf not only as cover for even more government spending, but as a major source of funding for it. This is an outrage. And it should give every American a window into the Democrat approach to spending as well as their lack of seriousness about the debt; they just can’t restrain themselves. That’s the only possible excuse for raiding this trust fund for unrelated government spending. At the same time, as Americans wonder when this gusher will ever be plugged, we hear word that the administration and the Majority Leader want to piggyback their controversial new national energy tax — also known as “cap-and-trade,” to an oil spill response bill that could and should be an opportunity for true bipartisan cooperation.

So here again, we see the administration using a crisis, in this case the disaster in the Gulf, as an opportunity to muscle through Congress another deeply unpopular bill that has profound implications for small business and struggling households. Look: if the health care debate taught us anything, it’s that Americans want these kinds of massive bills debated out in the open — not rushed past them on a holiday or tacked onto a must-pass bill aimed at alleviating the kind of suffering we’re seeing in the Gulf.

The problem for Democrats is that debating the Democrat cap-and-trade bill might not fit neatly into the White House messaging plan, since it’s been widely reported that a major part of the Kerry-Lieberman bill was essentially written by BP. This is clearly an inconvenient fact: an administration that seems to spend most of its time coming up with new ways to show how angry it is with BP is pushing a proposal that BP helped write.

I can’t understand, and I don’t think the American people will understand, why the Majority believes that it make sense to respond to the BP oil spill by imposing a gas tax increase on the American people that was advocated by – BP. I think the American people want us to work together to address the disaster in the Gulf, not exploit it for partisan political purposes. The oil spill trust fund ought to be used to clean up oil spills. This is one crisis that Americans won’t let Democrats exploit for their policy purposes.

A retired U.S. military leader who now is a presence on the Internet with his Stand Up For America and Veterans Defenders websites has issued a call for President Obama's resignation and a new election to replace him.

The call comes from Maj. Gen. Paul E. Vallely, who served in Vietnam and retired in 1991 from the U.S. Army as deputy commanding general for the Pacific.

"We now must call for the immediate resignation of Barry Soetero (AKA President Barack Hussein Obama) … based on incompetence, deceit, fraud, corruption, dishonesty and violation of the U.S. oath of office and the Constitution," he said in remarks delivered to a Lincoln Reagan dinner in Virginia City, Mont., last week and published today on the Stand Up America website.

"And a call for a national petition for new elections to select the next president of the United States of America must be initiated," he continued. "We can wait no longer for a traditional change of power and new government."

"The Declaration of Independence states: 'To secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to affect their safety and happiness,'" Vallely said in his remarks.

"We cannot permit the current leaders in the White House and halls of Congress to continue in their efforts to lead us down the road of progressive socialism and destruction of America. This is the current battle that we constitutionalists face, and we must be aggressive in our efforts," he said.

He pointed out that the oath of office for the president is basic, stating, "I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same, that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."

"Sadly, we have seen them violate their oath. Fraud, lying, and corruption are rampant and some have engaged in treasonous activities, and they effectively thumb their noses at us and have sold you to the highest bidder," he said.

"Lincoln issued this warning in his inaugural address, 'Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up and shake off the existing government and form a new one. This is a most valuable and sacred right – a right which we hope and believe is to liberate the world,'" Vallely said.

"Being a representative republic, not a democracy, 'rising up' means other than revolution by means of arms. The people must 'rise up' from the grass roots across this great country as we think of the greater good of this and future generations. We are limited in the peaceful transfer of power…resignation, death, elections, and impeachment," he said.

"'We the People' have had enough. Enough is enough. The Obama White House and identifiable members of Congress are now on a progressive socialist, treasonous death march and are bankrupting and weakening the country. We have watched them violate their sacred oath of office. 'We, the People' cannot wait for and solely rely on the next round of elections in November of this year. It is now and each day that these public servants must put the citizen's interests above self-interest by resigning immediately," he said.

Vallely graduated from West Point and was commissioned in the Army in 1961. He served 32 years before retiring, including in theaters in Europe and the Pacific Rim.

He saw two tours of combat duty in Vietnam.

He's of late been a military analyst for the Fox News Channel and a lecturer on counter-terrorism. From 1982 to 1986 he commanded the 351st Civil Affairs Command that included all special forces, psychological warfare and civil military units in the Western United States and Hawaii.

Vallely is speaking as an American citizen who wants to see the nation restored to a role of world leadership peacefully.

Vallely said Obama's record is of failure at just about everything, from the massive buckets of cash handed out in his bailout programs to his instability on foreign policy and his "lack of resolve" on military issues.

He said while he doesn't call himself a "birther," even the issue of Obama's eligibility remains unresolved.

"Certainly as a citizen I don't buy off on his eligibility," he said.

But more significant than Obama's record, history, qualifications or even presidency is the nation's future, he said.

"We cannot continue to self-destruct here."

He said he's calling for the resignation of the president because that's what responsible citizens should be doing. Congress, certainly, is not going to take responsibility and get the job done, he said.

"I want the people to stand up and take government back, peacefully,"


The Constitution, Article 2, Section 1, states, "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President."

There have been a multitude of challenges and lawsuits over the issue. Some have alleged that he was not born in Hawaii in 1961 as he has written, or that the framers of the Constitution specifically excluded dual citizens – Obama's father was a subject of the British crown at Obama's birth – from being eligible for the office.

Besides Obama's actual birth documentation, the still-concealed documentation for him includes kindergarten records, Punahou school records, Occidental College records, Columbia University records, Columbia thesis, Harvard Law School records, Harvard Law Review articles, scholarly articles from the University of Chicago, passport, medical records, his files from his years as an Illinois state senator, his Illinois State Bar Association records, any baptism records, and his adoption records.

(Only a FRAUD would hide all his records. People want to know who obama really is. Obama uses the race card to deny anyone from exposing him as a FRAUD. Obama is an affirmative action president. He is a product of affirmative action. He is a defective product. Not everyone who has taken atvantage of being promoted because of lower grades or lower sat scores or quotas is unqualified. Obama was never qualified to be president, even with the help of affirmative action programs, but because of "political correctness" and playing the race card at every opportunity, obama was elected. Obama must hide his "affirmative action record". Race itself is not a qualification for president but obama would have you believe it is. Obama is a successful failure.
